Terms and Conditions

Online Declaration: By completing the online registration and paying your £30 fee, you declared:

*Sponsorship Promise: You agreed to raise at least the minimum sponsorship of £150 in order to take part in the event. Proof of this will be required at check-in. £30 of your sponsorship money will be retained by Rotary Club of South Queensferry Trust Fund SC025363 to support its own charitable work.

You understood that: the object is to raise as much sponsorship as possible; that this is a restricted event and fundraising is allowed for specified charities only.

** Event Disclaimer: You hereby waived any and all claims (to the extent permitted by law) that may arise from whatever cause against The Rotary Club of South Queensferry (RCSQ), its members or agents for any loss, injury or damage to your personal property or yourself during the event. RCSQ have teamed up with the highly experienced Glasgow Climbing Centre to make sure the Abseil is as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Climbing, abseiling and zip slides are mountaineering activities. I have read the following British Mountaineering Council – Participation Statement: "The BMC recognizes that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of, and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement" You further granted permission for the Charity to use any photographs taken in any way to further promote the activities of the Charity.

Abseil Check-in Times: On 1st July you will check-in at the Hawes Inn beside The Forth Bridge in South Queensferry. Your check-in time will be advised early June, and we ask you please to check-in at the specified time.

Brief Details: We’d love to hear about any special reasons, or a personal story about why you are taking part as this could help us publicise this event in the future. We will let you know where to send your story nearer the event.

Full Terms and Conditions: The detailed terms and conditions follow. If you are unable to comply with them, then please contact Jim McCulloch as soon as possible. Email admin@rcsqsales.org.uk.

Disclaimer: Thank you for supporting the RCSQ and your chosen charity by taking part in this Abseil. We’ve teamed up with the highly experienced Glasgow Climbing Centre to make sure the Abseil is as safe and enjoyable as possible. Climbing, abseiling and zip slides are mountaineering activities. Please read the following British Mountaineering Council – Participation Statement:

“The BMC recognizes that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of, and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement”

Although all practicable steps are taken to ensure the safety of participants, climbing, abseiling and zip slides, are activities that contain an element of risk and are therefore included in the above statement. Neither the operating company nor its employees shall be liable for any loss or injury to participants arising from their taking part in this activity, other than required by law.

1 You are aware of and accept these risks and accept that you are responsible for your own actions.
2 You hereby waive any and all claims (to the extent in law) that may arise from whatever cause against The Rotary Club of South Queensferry or agents for any loss, injury or damage to your personal property, or to yourself, during the event.
3 You understand that The Rotary Club of South Queensferry cannot accept any liability for any costs, claims, losses or liabilities whatsoever suffered by the participant directly or indirectly as a result of taking part.
4 You understand the existence of danger and that there is risk involved for yourself or, in giving parental consent, for your child who is aged 16 + on the event day. Where you are completing this declaration on behalf of your child, a further manual declaration and consent is required. This declaration can be obtained by contacting Jim McCulloch – admin @rcsqsales.org.uk
5 You acknowledge receipt of and understand the information regarding the proposed event. You agree to follow the supervision arrangements. You understand that it is important for your safety and for the safety of the group for you to behave in a reasonable manner and that any rules and instructions given by staff will be obeyed.

Alcohol and Drugs: It is important that you do not consume any alcohol or take drugs in the hours before the Abseil. We reserve the right to refuse access to the bridge to anyone who we suspect to be under the influence or impairment, or for any other health and safety reason.

Medical Declaration: You hereby declare that you are in good general health. (You will have to walk up 120 or so steps to the foot of the rail bridge. You will then have to climb another flight of stairs to the bridge gantry. If in any doubt regarding your fitness, we request that you consult your G.P. and produce a doctor’s note confirming that you are fit enough to take part in the Abseil). Any queries regarding conditions which may affect your ability to abseil which may lead to a dangerous situation to yourself or others will be communicated to the Registration Officer, Jim McCulloch, by email - admin@rcsqsales.org.uk prior to participating in the Abseil. Please let Jim know if you need any special assistance.

Sponsorship Collection and Payment: Raising sponsorship money is at the very heart of the Abseil event, and is hugely appreciated by your chosen charity. Part of your challenge is to maximise the amount you raise, and this can be as thrilling as the Abseil itself. RCSQ encourages sponsors to use “Just Giving” and, where possible, to apply for Gift Aid, which increases the value of the sponsorship money donated to your chosen charity. Money raised in sponsorship should be collected before the Abseil, or as soon as possible afterwards.

If you choose to use sponsorship forms, they, and all money raised should be handed in at the check-in desk in the Hawes Inn on the day of the Abseil. If you have any outstanding sponsorship money, this must be collected as soon as possible after the Abseil (within one month) and sent, along with the completed sponsorship forms, to Mrs Liz Mackenzie, 47 Echline Drive, West Lothian, EH30 9UX. Ensure that you keep a copy of any sponsorship forms you require to collect outstanding sponsor monies. Please make cheques payable to Rotary Club of South Queensferry Trust Fund – a Scottish Charity with Registration number SC025363.
